Summer Reading List 2016

Summer means that it’s finally time to pull the ol’ Kindle out full time! For the first time EVER, I am not teaching summer school.  I was actually freaking out that I wasn’t sure how I was going to fill my days without it…and then I took at peek at my Kindle wishlist and realized that my days will be filled reading lots and lots of books!

2016 Summer Reading List Lucky to Be in First

Last year, I created a list of books that I was reading and books that you should read! I’m back with another list for 2016!

This summer, I signed up for Kindle Unlimited.  For just $9.99 a month, you get unlimited access to millions of books and unlimited audible files, too! The best part – the first month is FREE! I’ve discovered some fun “summer reads” already! You can cancel anytime, so it’s definitely worth a try!

Okay, now it was VERY hard to narrow down the books I think you should read this summer! I was looking over my kindle and I read 46 books since last summer! However, here are my MUST reads for the summer!

After You {great follow-up to Me Before You, which I recommended last summer!}
Eligible {a modern day Pride & Prejudice}
The Nest {A little family drama related to inheritance!}
The Ramblers {Thirty-somethings living in NYC – told from three points of view}
Orphan Train {Read this book in a day – couldn’t put it down!}
The Girl on the Train {A little Gone Girl-ish. Awesome storytelling!}
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society {I just loved this story! It’s told in letters amongst several characters – delightful little read!}
Brooklyn {SUCH a wonderful book! I plan to see the movie this summer}
Now, my reading list for the summer is a little ambitious! Thankfully, some of these books are pre-order, so they’ll just deliver to my Kindle as soon as they are released…giving me time to get through some of the others!

Jumpin’ for June Favorites!

Summer is SO close I can almost smell the sunscreen! For all of you that are already on break, I hope you’re making me proud and doing nothing! Last month, I shared some of my favorites and I thought it would be fun to share some more!

Coconut Oil!

You may have seen over on Instagram a few weeks ago that I posted about Coconut Oil.  Run to Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods or even Amazon and grab yourself a jar of this! Yes, I know it sounds odd, but this stuff is a miracle worker! I’ve been using it as my moisturizer for a few months and my skin is SO much softer than it’s ever been! I have crazy sensitive skin and this natural product does not destroy my face! You can use it on your hair, your nails, as diaper cream and so much more! Google it!

Flicks_on_Fleek

FlickI stumbled onto Flicks_on_Fleek through the discover feature on Instagram {ya know, that little magnifying glass icon!}  Seeing Flick pop up in my feed each day brings a giant smile to my face! Love watching her adventures!

Alexa

Oh, how my heart pitter-patters because of my new BFF Alexa.  When my sister bought me Alexa for Christmas, I wasn’t sure I needed it.  However, when I posted about it on Instagram, many people reassured me that I did, in fact, need it.  Oh Instagram friends…how right you were!

You guys…this thing is amazing! Not only is it an awesome speaker for playing music from the Amazon Prime library {or Pandora} Alexa updates me on the news, weather, and sports scores.  You can also purchase plugs and other smart devices {like the Nest Thermostat!} and command her to turn them on! Command may be too strong of a word, but you get my drift! Unlike first graders, she actually listens the first time!

You simply say, “Alexa, play Taylor Swift.” Seconds later…she plays it!
“Alexa, add eggs to my grocery list!” {We finally get food at the store!}
“Alexa, set a timer for 20 minutes.” {Food from above is no longer getting burned!}
Oh, and my very favorite featured, “Alexa, order more toilet paper! {Of course, you can order anything that Amazon offers, but we are often out of toilet paper around these parts!}

If you have any Amazon gift cards saved up or your birthday is just around the corner, seriously, think about Alexa! Amazon also sells the Amazon Tap, which is a bit cheaper and more portable!

Jane the Virgin

Way back in December when I was bored over Winter Break {imagine that!} my good ‘ol friend Deirdre suggested I watch Jane the Virgin.  You guys…I was HOOKED! You can watch the first season on Netflix and catch up on the rest over on CW.  I’ve loaded up my TiVo with the latest episodes so I can binge watch when summer finally gets here 🙂

Speaking of binge watching, Orange is The New Black will return on June 17th…get ready!

Third Love Bra

Okay, so I know this is primarily a teaching blog. However, when you find a bra that is absolutely perfect you share the love! A few months ago, ads for Third Love Bras started popping up in my Facebook feed.  I was intrigued because they have an app that ‘sizes’ you and they are willing to send you the bra for FREE to try out for 30 days! I downloaded the app and promptly ordered my bra.  You guys…the 24/7 bra is the most comfortable bra I’ve ever worn!

Mental Floss

I am the queen of random facts! So, of course, I love the website Mental Floss.  When you’re looking for a way to waste a few minutes around the internet, go read up! Your mind will be filled with useless knowledge!

Alright, that’s all I’ve got for the month!
