Can You Say Random Post?

Oh my goodness – did you think I fell off the map for awhile? I had a crazy couple of weeks for sure, but I’m back with a random mix of stuff from the dark hole I was in for almost two weeks!
First up, I am SUPER pumped to have finished up the October B.A.T. Book! If you’re not familiar with the B.A.T. Books they stand for Brains Always Thinking! I got tired of hearing kids say, “I’m done!” Reading books is fun when you’re finished, but I was tired of it being the only choice! With the B.A.T. Book, your kiddos have a self-contained activity book that stretches those common core skills into a fun activity.
It has 20 fun activities to give your kiddos some options when they’re through with their work!
 Here’s a peek at a few of my favorite activities!
The October B.A.T. Book is on sale until tonight so make sure to grab it and get it all set for October.  You can read about the September B.A.T. Book {here} or check it out on TpT {here}
Now for some amazingness {that’s a word, right?} Have you heard of Influenster? I actually was tipped off to this fun website via an Instagram friend last year!
Here’s their mission statement:
Influenster is a community of trendsetters, social media hotshots, and educated consumers who live to give opinions of products and experiences.
Well, since signing up for Influenster, I’ve been sent A TON of free stuff to try {Mary Kay makeup, deodorant, Tide Sticks, and more!} All you have to do is share your opinions {good or bad!} about the goodies once you’ve tried them!
But last week,  the most exciting goody was delivered to my door –  The Keurig 2.0!
#helloKeurig
This beauty not only makes a single cup of coffee – it’ll make a whole carafe! They also sent me a free sampler with all sorts of yummy choices to try! My sister has decided that the Donut Shop is her favorite flavor.  I’m still drinking my way through my choices, but right now, the Starbucks variety is topping the list!
I used my Ellen cup.  You know, the one I got bought from my friend Ellen when I went to see her for the 12 Days of Giving last December.  You can read all about it {here}
Now how about some freebies for you?!
Last week in math, we reviewed tallies.  To get the kids up and moving, I made this Count the Classroom. It was a great quick assessment to see which kiddos still need a little boost in that area!
You can grab it {here}

Science is rough in my classroom! It’s at the end of the day when the brand new first graders are exhausted.  Plus, you throw words like “viscous” “transparent” and “opaque” at them and they just want to fall asleep! Oh wait, is that just me? Ha!
Anyway, I got the kiddos up and moving again with this activity.  We went on a scavenger hunt around our classroom to find two objects for each solid property.

They LOVED it and did a fabulous job finding objects to fit the bill!
 You can grab it {here}
I also shared on my Facebook page this fun Sesame Street video called The Power of Yet.  Not only is it a very catch tune, it’s also a great starting point for a conversation with your kids at the beginning of the year.

What a Random Week!

Today is my LAST Friday of the school year – wooooohooo! Although, I’m not sure why I’m celebrating…I’m teaching summer school – which begins at the end of next week! Ha!

However, with 5 days to go, we are still not done learning! This week, we continued our fun exploration of animal groups, focusing on fish and mammals.

To make these Factual Fish, we traced the fish outline onto colored construction paper and decorated with complementary color scales and added a little background.  Then, the kids added some bubble facts!

We also made our own Whingdingdilly.  You can read more about that project {here}
My nephews “graduated” from Kindergarten.

I can’t believe it. Crazy to think they’ll be in first grade.  Guess I’ll have a few new guinea pigs to try out some new stuff!

You may remember from way back when {or August!} that I used iPods for my Back to School door.

Well, I got lots of queries if the Class Playlists were available in my store.
Almost 180 days later…they finally are!

I’ve included editable grade level specific iPods for Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Simply type your kiddos name in, print out and voila – a super easy BTS display!
And lastly, here is why we need to continue to do our jobs, teachers!
We had a retirement party last weekend for a wonderful grade level partner.  Despite the spelling error and missing apostrophe, it was a delicious cake and the party was lovely 🙂

It reminded me of this funny quote floating all over Pinterest!

That’s it for this week!
Go link up with Casey!
Have a fabulous Friday!

Animals Gone Wild!

It seems like the only topic we’re covering these days is animals! I usually save this high-interest topic for the weeks just before school {when interest is low all around!} The smell of sunscreen is intoxicating in my classroom – bring on summer already!
To start, we learned all about the different habitats.  The kids worked in pairs to “research” a habitat.  They used their new knowledge to create a poster.
Then, they shared their posters with the entire class and taught everyone else about it! Love when they’ve learned so much and are s comfortable around each other that standing in front of the group is no longer intimidating!
In computer lab, we played an awesome game {that you probably already know about} Apparently, I live under a rock and don’t know of such cool things: Switch Zoo!
The kids switch body parts of different mammals.  What’s awesome is that they As they add another animal, information about each animal pops up!
After learning about habitats, we move into learning about the 6 major animal groups {amphibians, birds, fish, insects, mammals and reptiles}
To begin, we started with amphibians.  The kids wrote some facts about amphibians in their Animal Encyclopedias.
  This little encyclopedia is included in Grab Bag Galore {along with a TON of other random goodies!}!
Then, we looked a little closer at a famous amphibian using Camp Comprehension: Animals.
 Of course we had to add a little art to the fun! We traced frog heads from paper plates and added 4 legs and a tongue.
Inside of the frog’s mouth is the Frog’s Life Cycle.
