Favorite Apps for the Classroom!

As you may know, I’m a HUGE tech nerd. I love gadgets and gizmos of all types for my classroom! I am super fortunate to work in a district where technology is embraced and encouraged.

In each of our classrooms, we have a set of six iPads.  I use our iPads during Daily 5, as well as during our Math time. There are so many great apps out there that it can be overwhelming! So here’s a list of my favorite apps for the classroom!

My Favorite Apps Lucky to Be in First

First up is my very own app, Smart Cookie Math! In my classroom, we use the Smart Cookie Math paper and pencil program to work on our math fact fluency.  Parents were always asking, “How can I help my child at home?” In this digital age, an app was my solution!

The app mirrors the program exactly! So, when a child may need some extra practice on Level 6, they can use Level 6 on the app to squeeze in a little practice!

You can read more about my Apps {here}

Just a couple of weeks ago, I mentioned a great reading app, Rhyme to Read.
You can read my post about it {here}. Make sure to check out their website to learn more! It’s a phenomenal app at a great price!

When I was at the EdExpo in Atlanta last month, I was fortunate to meet the amazing creator of the Touchtronic apps, Duncan! He was so humble about this incredible system!

Basically, you tap the letters and numbers directly onto the iPad to play games and create numbers and words.  It’s amazing!

You can read more about it on my blog {here} or head over the Junior Learning website for the letters {here} and the numbers {here} This app will seriously BLOW your mind!

During Daily 5 time, my students “read the newspaper” each day through the News-O-Matic app. Every evening, a new digest is delivered to our iPads. It’s filled with five headline news stories…but in a very kid-friendly format.  I LOVE hearing the students discuss the news!

There are multiple editions to choose from for various grade levels.  Check out their website {here} or the app {here}

During Math time {after students have finished their “work” for the day} they are allowed to use the iPads for Math games.

One great app is called Kodable. It’s a programming curriculum to use with early elementary students. What I love is that students can begin their program in the computer lab {or at home} and continue their progress on the iPad.  Check out their website {here}

I’m sure most of you have heard of RAZ Kids but just in case, it’s worth mentioning how fabulous it is! To use this app, you must already subscribe to RAZ Kids.

The RAZ Kids App is filled with TONS of leveled books. You can assign students to a specific bookshelf.  From there, they can have a story read to them, read it on their own, take quizzes, and even record their reading! This is well worth the price tag!

Do you remember those fun magnetic letters we all had on our fridges growing up? Well, here’s the 2015 version of Magnetic Letters! I give my kids a list of sight words and let them go crazy!

I’ve mentioned that we use Everyday Math for our curriculum. The best part of this curriculum are their games they have embedded into the program!

A few years ago, they added digital versions of those games! My favorite is Top-It, but they have a huge list! Even if you don’t use this program, the apps are great reinforcement for basic math concepts!

And lastly, who can forget the Osmo! We love ALL of the apps for Osmo! I’m so excited to get the kids started on their latest, Masterpiece this week! Yippee!

Do you have apps that you can’t live without? Leave me a comment – I’m always looking for new apps to check out!

Fabulous Friday!

I added what I think is my favorite product EVER to my store last week! When I was little, I I remember visiting the Hello Kitty store while at the mall. I would always beg my mom to let me buy the grab bag! It was always so fun to discover a new treasure to add to my collection!

Each week, I make a TON of random worksheets {and other stuff!} for my classroom. It might be a random note for kids, a holiday goody, a science worksheet or a fun new classroom decor. It’s too little to turn into a new product, so I’ve decided to offer you my version of the Hello Kitty grab bag…Grab Bag Galore!

At least two times a month {but likely more!} I will add new stuff to this collection {1-2 page treasures}!

I’ve already added a few goodies {and one often requested, but no longer available product of mine!} Here’s a peek at one goody I added last week!

The price will increase as more treasures are added, but you’ll always have access to the the previous content! I promise this will be worth it!

We’ve chatted a lot about nouns recently. Last week, we focused on what a noun is by making these noun flippers.  You can grab this freebie {here}

Then, we moved into a Noun Sort

This sort is included in Grab Bag Galore!

This week, we’ve been discussing proper nouns by using a bunch of the goodies found in my Super Sweet Nouns unit. The kids especially loved the Super Sweet Sugar Search around the room!

I love First Grade Fairytales’ Proper Noun Pizzas! Head over to grab her freebie!

We also worked a bunch on shapes this week! I am lovin’ Smitten with First’s awesome pack, Shake Rattle and Roll! She definitely got me with the name BUT the pack is great too!

We made these fun Shapes Around Me pictures!

SO creative!

Then, we used First Grade Fairytales My Shape Pizzas.

They are too stinkin’ cute!

And we also squeezed in some Math Monsters, too!

<

Next week we’re onto money. I’m pretty sure it will not be as fun as shapes!

A Smorgasboard of Holiday Randomness!

I was HORRIBLE about taking pictures this week in my classroom, so I don’t have much to share! So, I thought I’d take a different approach for a look back at this week.
Here’s a peek at my week – techy style!

Have you seen this cutie? She is a KODA (Kid of Deaf Adults) As a surprise to her parents, she signed the entire holiday performance.  I absolutely love this video!

Another awesome video that I’m sure you’ve seen is the West Jet campaign.  This is SO worth the 5 minutes of your life {and maybe they even convinced me to take a trip to Canada!}

{In case you don’t figure it out, I easily get sucked into videos!)

Thanks to my sister, I discovered something AMAZING this week – Google Shopping Express.  OH. MY. WORD. You order from a huge list of stores and within an hour or two, your items arrive at your house.  Seriously.

I ordered a Tangle Teezer from Target and it arrived at my work just a little while later! Thank goodness because my hair is a rat’s nest these days!

If you sign up by December 31st, the service is free for the first six months.  I’m over the moon that I won’t need to grocery stop or step foot in Target.  My wallet will thank me!

As of right now, it’s only a Bay Area thing.

The Smart Cookie Math Multiplication App is here!

Check it out in the iTunes store {here} or read more about it {here}

And if I haven’t thrown enough at you to read and enjoy in this post, make sure to check out Buzzfeed’s 28 Funniest Notes Written by Kids this year.  Hilarious! And some I think we can all relate to!
Enjoy 🙂
There’s my Five for Friday!
